Bright, clear and cold: This

New year unfolds and spreads

Calendrical wings

Hello Friends of Flying Needle!

Happy Lesser Cold!

- fifth hibernal node -

Hope this finds you well during these interesting times!

Seasonal Musings & Reflections

Happy New Year!

It is clear and cold this morning in Chapel Hill. Grey squirrels are running wild spirals up the leafless oaks as I write this. A light breeze is blowing. The sky is a cloudless blue. The sunlight has a crisp metallic quality. My daughter is sitting on the couch reading a graphic novel. It's a quiet and still morning in the house.

Welcome to 2024! It is my sincere wish and prayer that this new Gregorian calendar year may bring each and everyone deeper connection, presence, and gratitude. May we cultivate and express engaged compassion and embodied wisdom. May we rest in remembrance of our connection to all being and becoming and seek to serve their flourishing every day! May we each find the courage and clarity to do what we can where we are to alleviate the suffering of all beings!

If there is anything that I can do as a colleague, friend of the heart, or practitioner of Chinese medicine to support you in navigating these exceptionally challenging times I invite you to reach out. I am here to offer what I am able in service to the beauty and mystery of living and dying well on this Earth.

February 10 marks the arrival of the Yang Wood Dragon year in the Chinese lunisolar calendar. We'll dive into that at greater length in next month's newsletter.

May your Winter days be filled with beauty, mystery, and friendship!

May you and your kin feel both rooted and free!

May we walk in gratitude with our Ancestors!

May all being and becoming receive nourishment!

Interdependent

Mutually generative

Yin gives rise to Yang

Yang consolidates

To Yin ceaselessly dancing

And transforming

It is my sincere hope that you have found something of use in these words.

If you know folks who you feel would enjoy this newsletter, please forward it their way! Thank you!

Wishing you and all your relations wellbeing and good medicine!

With gratitude,

Taran
